Congratulations to the team at Surge Twente on unveiling their new hydrofoiling methanol-powered boat and brand identity! With this innovative vessel, the students aim to explore the role methanol can play in sustainable shipping.
The new name marks the next chapter for the team: pioneering hydrofoiling technology powered by green methanol. It reflects their ambitions, technological vision, and the surge of innovation they aim to bring to the maritime sector.
We are very proud to sponsor and support the team, formerly known as Solar Boat Twente, consisting of students from the University of Twente and Saxion University of Applied Sciences.
The methanol used for their project is produced at the University’s high pressure lab in the pilot plant Brusche Process Technology engineered, designed and built back in 2022/23. Our colleague Tim van Schagen obtained his PhD on the innovative process for producing green methanol from carbon dioxide and hydrogen.
We strongly believe that (e-)methanol offers a practical route to decarbonize shipping and industry while reducing dependence on fossil fuels. It’s great to see these students have the same conviction and work hard to show this!
